With 1999’s The Blair Witch Project as one of my top 5 scary movies of all time, I was looking forward to this continuation of the found-footage genre-blasting story line. While it didn’t have me desperately wishing I didn’t live in the woods as happened after watching the original, Blair Witch still made me pause before walking my dog in the dark or planning my next camping trip.
James, only four when his sister Heather disappeared in the Black Hills Forest during TBWP, is still trying to find closure. After discovering recent footage posted online which may or may not show Heather in the Blair Witch house, James enlists friends (including, of course, a friend who wants to document the entire effort) to help him find answers. The group soon meets with the person who found the new footage before setting off into the seemingly-benign woods searching for the house and Heather. Armed with high-tech gadgets to assist them, they soon realize their toys are no match for what still lives in the Forest, and that tents and flashlights may not save them. Oh, and that the house is WAAAYYY scarier in real life than on a computer screen.
